In its final regular season game, Colquitt County had to work hard to earn its undefeated title. The Packers hosted Camden County on November 7 in a 28-24 victory for Colquitt.
Following a 7-7 first quarter, Colquitt took a 14-7 advantage going into the half. In the third, Camden made their way back into the game with 10 points to Colquitt’s 7, giving the Packers a slight 21-17 lead.
Camden struck first early in the fourth, giving them a 24-21 lead. The Packers came right back with a 48-yard rush for a touchdown from Sihiem King 90 seconds later. Then, Colquitt turned up the defense to close out the game with a 4-point lead.
King, a senior running back, finished with an incredible 234 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries. In the air, Chase Parrish completed 17 of 23 passes for 229 yards and two more scores. The quarterback’s favorite target was fellow junior Kiel Pollard, whom he hit five times for 84 yards and one TD.
Defense was a major factor of the Packer’s win. In particular, Colquitt did a good job putting pressure on the quarterback, leading to four sacks from four different players. Senior linebacker DeThemeyus Barge seemed to be everyone a Camden ball carrier was, recording 24 total tackles, 13 solo and 11 assists, including one of the sacks.
Now Colquitt can prepare for the GHSA Class AAAAAA playoffs. The Packers, currently ranked 8th in the DigitalSports National Football Rankings and 1st in Georgia, face Rockdale County on November 14 to open up the postseason.
